More about Valentine Schmalentine Menu

in case you are wondering what all these strange foods might be --

Zakuski

Valentine Schmalentine What Am I? Chopped Liver?
traditional chopped liver with onions and eggs. Goes great with a pickle on some dark rye. It is made from free range chicken livers.

Jewish Salami
What makes it Jewish? There is no pork here. Made with beef and very tasty!

Bresaola

The recipe comes from the Italian Alps - salted and aged beef. Delicious. More pickles please!

Gefilte Fish
It's nothing like the stuff in the jars. This is poached ground white fish. Must eat with horseradish.

Pickled veggies

Try our non-vinegar marinated tomatoes, Wild Porcini mushrooms, pickled squash, kraut, pickled beets. Yum!

First Course

Chicken Soup, What the Doctor Ordered
This soup is made with organic chicken and slowly cooked for 3 hours. We take our chicken soup seriously. This will make you feel better even if you don't feel bad.


Wild Porcini Mushroom Soup
This is a real mushroom soup. It is made with wild Porcini (Bolete) mushrooms harvested in the woods outside of Olympia.

Second Course

Pelmeni
These dumplings with potatoes or meat and spices were the favorite food of Siberian hunters. They come in a light broth with garlic butter or sour cream and scallions.

Kasha with Root Vegetables
This dish is an Italian Jewish recipe that comes with caramelized onions and seasonal root vegetables sauteed with walnuts, maple syrup and fresh herbs.

Dessert

Kissel
This is a traditional Eastern European thickened berry drink that is served warm or cold with cream. It's hard to describe, you just have to taste it!

Chocolate Beet Cake
So moist and delicious you won't believe it's vegan and has no refined sugars.
 
Hungarian Layer Cake
So tasty, you won't want to stop eating this delicate creation. Made with delicious layers of crepes, nut butter and chocolate.

Chocolate Macaroons
They are gluten free and oh so delicious!
